Beginners Guide To Sea Fishing
Sea fishing is a most popular pastime enjoyed by many in the UK. However, it can seem daunting to those who have never tried it before. This beginner’s guide will help you get started.
Basic Fishing Equipment:
Firstly, you will need some basic equipment. This includes a fishing rod, reel, tackle box, fishing line, rigs, casting weight and a pair of fishing sunglasses. Generally, People use:
- 12ft Surf, casting ratio 6-8oz
- Fixed spool reel
- 25/30lb monofilament line
- 2/3 hook flapper rig, pulley rig, paternoster rig etc.
- 6-8oz lead weight according to the rod specification
Fishing Spot:
Next, you will need to decide on your fishing spot. The best place to start is by looking for areas where there is plenty of fish. You can find this information online or by talking to local angler or by using a good fish finder.
Tide time is another important thing. Low tide is known for double figure sea bass (if you are lucky). But 3 hours before and 3 hours after high tide has always high chance for all species.
When choosing a spot, in mind the weather conditions and the type of fish you are after. If the water is dirty, choose a spot near the shore or from a pier to make it easier to see what you are doing.
Bait
Worms are most effective bait for all season. Whoever, mackerel, squid, mussels, peeler crab also a good bait.
Prepare for Fishing:
Next, attach your rig and weight to the fishing line before casting your line into the water. The weight will help sink your bait down towards the seabed where most of the larger fish hang out. Make a tension in your line so you can detect any bite.
Keep an eye on your rod tip as this will let you know when a fish has taken your bait and try not to pull up sharply as this can cause them to wriggle off the hook – instead reel them in gently so they don’t have any time to escape! If you do lose a catch, re-bait, and cast as soon as possible before another fish move on.
Caution:
A slip of casting can cause serious injury. Check around you before casting.
Conclusion:
Now that you know the basics, go out and enjoy some quality time fishing at the sea! Good luck and happy fishing!
